The radio had an interesting speech i stumbled across; information that is not getting a lot of air-time: sex has a price tag. While true, that this information is mostly irrelevant if following the Bible, no man is an island, and we are called upon at random times to provide information and evidence to others who are in need of such.

There is also an interesting twist in part one where the speaker gives her personal testimony regarding abortion. That starts around 17.0 minutes into the real audio stream.

Some number of years ago i posted a list of Unix Programming Rules, from an unknown source. Only recently did i discover this was the outline from the book The Unix Philosophy, by Mike Gancarz.

While the rules themselves are timeless, and of utmost value, the book itself is not quite so much so. My suggestion is to look over the Unix Programming Rules, if you don't understand the scope and rational for some of the rules, then i would highly suggest you read this book. Otherwise, it is a good read if unix philosophy grabs your fancy.

A few months ago, before getting a job offer, i started looking at various grad schools to see if any of them were working on any interesting computer science/computer architecture projects. While i didn't do an extensive analysis of what was being researched, none of the big named schools that i looked at listed anything that i considered interesting--unless algorithm optimization for the data mining of distributed object databases really does it for you.

Now i've ran across an almost rant by Rob Pike about the same topic: Systems Software Research is Irrelevant. Depressing really.
